“Working with Chris and Angie in this setting has fed me for months after (and probably years). They facilitated a workshop environment of exquisite articulation and easeful collaborative exploration. They crafted the days together in a way that supported depth of work with the quality of a much longer-term collaborative team.”
— Shaina Cantino Dancer/Choreographer and DIPI 2014 participant
“Doing a workshop with Chris and Angie is a wonder. A wonder of opening to each day’s gifts, expertly guided by two effortlessly intelligent movers. A wonder of internal work that continues from the first day until the final circle. A wonder of confusion and clarity, of zany fun and sudden solemness, of breathless activity and the peace of being still with others. It’s a wonder of environment, of meeting new bodies and people who become new friends, in a natural setting that is one of the treats of being at Earthdance. Angie and Chris are wonders: seamlessly pairing with each other, each offering distinct viewpoints and pathways in, exploring along with their “students.” They’re one of my favorite improvisational duos!”

Dance Improvisation & Performance Intensive 2016
with Chris Aiken and Angie Hauser
August 8 – 13
Earthdance, Western Massachusetts, USA
A 6-day residential workshop focused on dance improvisation, performance and other related work. Our time will be spent tuning and stretching our physical and perceptual capacities. Dancing, watching, talking, performing, and composing will be a part of our daily practice and research.
The material of this intensive is informed by Chris and Angie’s experience with a wide range of forms. There are recognizable influences from contemporary dance training, contact improvisation, fascia research, Alexander Technique, ecological psychology, and visual and architectural design.
Please come ready to immerse yourself in intensive research and practice.
ABOUT THE LOCATION
A world renowned center for dance and creative expression, Earthdance provides the ideal setting for this intensive. Much of our time will be spent on the sprung maple floors of the two large, sunny studios. Workshop participants will also have access to the wood-stove sauna, meditation and massage rooms, and more than 125 acres of woods, streams and trails to explore. Earthdance provides 3 delicious vegetarian meals a day plus snacks and tea as part of the room/board cost of the intensive.

“Participating in the workshop at Earthdance with Chris and Angie was just what I needed to reinvest in my improvisational practice. I felt supported, challenged, and excited to return home with new information, new friends and collaborators, and a reminder as to why I need to keep improvising. And doing this at Earthdance made it even more potent: the diverse community that came together in this work, and guided so generously by Chris and Angie, really invited my learning to continue beyond the studio.”
