Welcome to the 6th edition of Opening to the Unknown in France
With Chris Aiken and Andrew Harwood
We are pleased to once again greet Andrew and Chris at our studio « Les Ailes de Bernard », located in an old silk spinning mill. These two outstanding artists transmit with sensitivity and intelligence the art of compositional improvisation and of contact improvisation, with a natural aptitude for using this out of the ordinary place and its unusual objects.
This workshop is intended for people who already have a solid experience in contact and improvisation. It aims to immerse the participants in the practice and performance of dance improvisation, in a stimulating and supporting environment.
Our days balance creative and physical work with critical discussion, time for reflection, writing, performing and ‘audiencing’ each other’s work. Both these teachers believe that to improvise well, we need to balance physical and compositional skill building with being aware and sensitizing ourselves to the emotional quality of our experience.
This workshop will also include a student presentation and a performance by Chris and Andrew, bodywork, experiments outside and in singular spaces of the village and its surroundings. A journal is essential.
